This weekâs theme is⊠BRiMMâs autumn watch list đ đș
The clocks have gone back (are you reading this an hour later than usual?), which officially marks the end of British Summertime. As the days get shorter and darker, we thought weâd celebrate the excuse to cosy up in front of the TV or head to a cinema. Here at BRiMM HQ weâve put our heads together and come up with some thought-provoking, uplifting and inspiring movies, documentaries and short films to delve into over the autumn months â some new, some that may not have hit your radar yet. So grab a cup of tea â or a coffee â an organic cotton blanket, sit back and hit playâŠ
Other Ways of Living
This three-part series from Waterbear and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation explores exciting innovations being developed in the circular economy. Presented by award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker Matt Shea, the episodes cover architecture, fashion and food.
Super Nature
Director Ed Sayers sent Super 8 cameras to a community of contributors around the world in a bid to make a more environmentally sound nature documentary, and the old family movie-style result is delightful. It just premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and will be released at a later date at theatres around the UK and Ireland.
Fashion Reimagined
Friend of BRiMM and fashion designer Amy Powneyâs 2022 film explores how to make a planet-positive collection from field to finished garment. Watch on Sky Documentaries or even apply to host your own screening.
Pangolin: Kuluâs Journey
This sweet story of a trafficked baby pangolin â one of the worldâs most poached and endangered animals â follows her journey with her âfoster dadâ as she rehabilitates and is returned to the wild.
Tribe with Bruce Parry
Twenty years after his original series, Bruce Parry returns to the BBC to immerse himself in remote communities like the Waimaha in the Columbian Amazon, who are deeply connected to the rainforest they live in.
Derby PLANTING programme
Animate Projects commissioned artists Simon Hamlyn, Lewis Heriz and Karen Okpoti to make short, animated films that explore our relationship to nature â cultivation, community, environment and place â in response to the work of three Derby âgardensâ â Derby Arboretum (Britainâs first public park), Hannah Fields community garden and Derbyshire Wildlife Trustâs urban Green Corridor project.
The Wild Ones
This six-part Apple TV+ series follows three men â Royal Marines Commando Aldo Kane, camera trap and survival expert Declan Burley and ecological storyteller and wildlife cinematographer Vianet Djenguet â as they travel through multiple countries on a mission to save six endangered species.
Common Ground
A BRiMM favourite (we screened this with a panel talk at Sohoâs Curzon cinema a few months ago), this film is the follow-up to 2020âs Kiss the Ground, the Woody Harrelson-narrated documentary, but this time Woody and the filmmakers â plus Laura Dern, Donald Glover and others â are heading to Congress in the name of regenerative farming and soil health.
Team up, tune in and letâs turn the tide,

BRiMM PICKINGS
We asked some experts for their favourite products stocked in BRiMMâs Enough Store. This week, dentist Dr Francis Chohan tells us why Laro toothpaste is worthy of a big smile (and itâs not just because of that incredibly chic packaging).
âAs a dentist I am always looking for ways to encourage good oral hygiene while also boosting my patientsâ oral microbiome. Laro offers a solution for people who are concerned with the chemicals in our environment, but donât want to compromise on tooth protection. Combining a natural hydroxyapatite toothpaste with a good diet and good hydration not only benefits your mouth but your whole body.â

GREEN SCREENS
As well as looking out for venues, such as Parkway Cinemas across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and the Lake District, who work hard to offer more planet-positive details including reusable cups, popcorn made on-site and local beer, coffee and ice-cream brands, you could join a film club. Groups like The Babel Film Club, now hosting screenings on Kingsland Road, not only offer the chance to watch movies as part of a community rather than solo, but also potentially reduce energy consumption (ie, stop you doing that simultaneous doomscroll on your phoneâŠ). Likewise, keep an eye out for BRiMM film screenings, too.

BROCCOLI, CHILLI AND ANCHOVY PASTA
As our friends at Northern Pasta informed us: itâs National Pasta Month! Itâs also a great time of year to try a really traditional Italian pasta sauce â broccoli, chilli and anchovies. Most pasta recipe books will have a version of this, and Hannahâs made most of them, so this is her own tried-and-tested version. Itâs incredibly simple and super tasty, and you can use whatever pasta you like (weâd recommend Northern Pastaâs Radiatori, which is available to buy in our Enough Store). The only other ingredients you will need are a head of broccoli (you can use frozen florets), a tin of anchovies, a red chilli (or chilli flakes) and a clove of garlic.
SERVES 2
Divide the broccoli into florets and cut the stem into small cubes. Boil for 10 minutes.
Remove the florets with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add the pasta to the water and cook according to the instructions.
In another pan, fry the garlic, chilli and around 8 anchovies in a little oil until the anchovies start to break up. Use the oil from the anchovy jar if you want an extra kick of saltiness. Add the broccoli florets and break up with a wooden spoon.
Drain the pasta and broccoli stems but reserve a cup of the water. Add all of this to the anchovy mixture and toss together. Season and serve with a little parmesan, if you wish.
The carbon footprint of an email depends on the device you use to open it, but sending you this one used about 3.5g of carbon.

Ooooo excited for Other Ways of Living. Will definitely check it out.
